Industrial Joystick for Heavy Machinery
Article by Johnny Rose
Industrial joystick is created from high end materials and technology. These joysticks ensure to work in any type of environment. There are various brands available that can be selected according to requirements. This equipment helps in increasingthe efficiency of the work process. With the use of technology every manufacturing or controlling process is completed with ease. USB is one of the types of access port which can be used for high end operation of industrial joystick. USB connectivity is fast; response time is quick and ensures to perform as programmed. An industrial joystick should be accessed in various temperatures. Working in a manufacturing plant means exposure to various temperature levels. The worker can be covered with clothing and additional safety items but the joystick is exposed to hazardous operating levels. Protective layer should be thick and redefined, and it should also be heat proof.
Shock-proof material is used in making of industrial joysticks. It ensures that the joystick is resistant to shocks and other hazardous substances. Most of the joysticks are also water resistant; they can easily work in wet conditions. Working of such tool depends on the software installed in computers. These joysticks have their own software which is used for accessing machines.Updating of software is required to be done when new programs are required.
The reliability of a joystick depends on the material used for manufacturing. If neoprene and high end fiber is used the lifespan is much better. Life span is calculated on the work hours spent on a particular joystick. Custom designs are also in the list of industrial joysticks or USB joystick. Custom designs are preferred as they are totally depended on for the type of work process it will be used.
Industrial joystick therefore proves to be one of the preferred manufacturing tools. It guides the user to select various work process related to manufacturing. It also ensures smooth working of machines and robots when manufacturing takes place. Before making the purchase you should check the buyer completely. It should have collaboration with various institutions that can help in making the right choice. Working of various equipment depends on industrial joystick applications. Maintenance is not a problem since these products are packed with robust specifications. Rough use is not a problem since they are designed to work in such conditions.

Chernobyl Nuclear Accident 1986
.
Location of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station:
The V.I. Lenin Memorial Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station was located in Ukraine, near the town of Pripyat, which had been built to house power station employees and their families. The power station was in a wooded, marshy area near the Ukraine-Belarus border, approximately 18 kilometers northwest of the city of Chernobyl and 100 km north of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
.
Background on the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident:
The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station included four nuclear reactors, each capable of producing one gigawatt of electric power. At the time of the accident, the four reactors produced about 10 percent of the electricity used in Ukraine.
Construction of the Chernobyl power station began in the 1970s. The first of the four reactors was commissioned in 1977, and Reactor No. 4 began producing power in 1983. When the accident occurred in 1986, two other nuclear reactors were under construction.
.
The Chernobyl Nuclear Accident:
On April 26, 1986, the operating crew planned to test whether the Reactor No. 4 turbines could produce enough energy to keep the coolant pumps running until the emergency diesel generator was activated in case of an external power loss. During the test, power surged unexpectedly, causing an explosion and driving temperatures in the reactor to more than 2,000 degrees Celsius—melting the fuel rods, igniting the reactor’s graphite covering, and releasing a cloud of radiation into the atmosphere.
.
Causes of the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident:
The precise causes of the accident are still uncertain, but it is generally believed that the series of incidents that led to the explosion, fire and nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl was caused by a combination of reactor design flaws and operator error.
.
Loss of Life from the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident:
By mid-2005, fewer than 60 deaths could be linked directly to Chernobyl—mostly workers who were exposed to massive radiation during the accident or children who developed thyroid cancer.
Estimates of the eventual death toll from Chernobyl vary widely. A 2005 report by the Chernobyl Forum—eight U.N. organizations—estimated the accident eventually would cause about 4,000 deaths. Greenpeace places the figure at 93,000 deaths, based on information from the Belarus National Academy of Sciences.
.
Physical Health Effects Linked to the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident:
The Belarus National Academy of Sciences estimates 270,000 people in the region around the accident site will develop cancer as a result of Chernobyl radiation and that 93,000 of those cases are likely to be fatal.
Another report by the Center for Independent Environmental Assessment of the Russian Academy of Sciences found a dramatic increase in mortality since 1990—60,000 deaths in Russia and an estimated 140,000 deaths in Ukraine and Belarus—probably due to Chernobyl radiation.
Chernobyl Liquidators “heroes of the fallout”
.
Psychological Effects of the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident:
The biggest challenge facing communities still coping with the fallout of Chernobyl is the psychological damage to 5 million people in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.
“The psychological impact is now considered to be Chernobyl’s biggest health consequence,” said Louisa Vinton, of the UNDP. “People have been led to think of themselves as victims over the years, and are therefore more apt to take a passive approach toward their future rather than developing a system of self-sufficiency.”
Countries and Communities Affected by the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident:
Seventy percent of the radioactive fallout from Chernobyl landed in Belarus, affecting more than 3,600 towns and villages, and 2.5 million people. The radiation contaminated soil, which in turn contaminates crops that people rely on for food. Many regions in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine are likely to be contaminated for decades.
Radioactive fallout carried by the wind was later found in sheep in the UK, on clothing worn by people throughout Europe, and in rain in the United States.
.
Chernobyl Status and Outlook :
The Chernobyl accident cost the former Soviet Union hundreds of billions of dollars, and some observers believe it may have hastened the collapse of the Soviet government.
After the accident, Soviet authorities resettled more than 350,000 people outside the worst areas, including all 50,000 people from nearby Pripyat, but millions of people continue to live in contaminated areas.
After the breakup of the Soviet Union, many projects intended to improve life in the region were abandoned, and young people began to move away to pursue careers and build new lives in other places.
“In many villages, up to 60 percent of the population is made up of pensioners,” said Vasily Nesterenko, director of the Belrad Radiation Safety and Protection Institute in Minsk. “In most of these villages, the number of people able to work is two or three times lower than normal.”
After the accident, Reactor No. 4 was sealed, but the Ukrainian government allowed the other three reactors to keep operating because the country needed the power they provided. Reactor No. 2 was shut down after a fire damaged it in 1991, and Reactor No. 1 was decommissioned in 1996. In November 2000, the Ukrainian president shut down Reactor No. 3 in an official ceremony that finally closed the Chernobyl facility.
But Reactor No. 4, which was damaged in the 1986 explosion and fire, is still full of radioactive material encased inside a concrete barrier, called a sarcophagus, that is aging badly and needs to be replaced. Water leaking into the reactor carries radioactive material throughout the facility and threatens to seep into the groundwater.
The sarcophagus was designed to last about 30 years, and current designs would create a new shelter with a lifetime of 100 years. But radioactivity in the damaged reactor would need to be contained for 100,000 years to ensure safety. That is a challenge not only for today, but for many generations to come.

Concrete Cutting
Drilling & wire sawing needs to be performed in more complex scenarios where concrete cutting equipment cannot be used due to certain restrictions implied by the project like in Stitch drilling for example. Inverted drilling with hydraulic drilling equipment is also possible when the usual means of drilling from above is not accessible.
Drilling is necessary for plumbing, electrical and mechanical services as well as many other applications. The core drilling process is a more accurate way of getting all your plumbing, electrical & mechanical services in their correct positions the first time, greatly reducing the risk of human error when trying to pin point locations through suspended concrete floors & pre cast concrete walls, before they are positioned into place. Drill sizes come in different sizes to fit the varying needs (around 12mm to 1 m in diameter).
Hand Sawing
Hand sawing is a more efficient option for smaller project. Such projects include, cutting window and door penetrations through brick or concrete no more than 150mm thick. They are a very cost effective solution in emergency situations where a crane is on site unable to continue due to small section of concrete obstructing location of concrete panel or steel work, thus keeping the construction project running smoothly & on budget. This makes this hand sawing process perfect for any construction project suffering down time of any type that can be resolved quickly & efficiently by the use of a concrete cutting hand saw.
Ring Sawing
Ring saws are similar to hand saws as both of them provide fast & efficient concrete cutting solutions. Though hand sawing usually takes care of projects that have access restrictions, a ring saw goes a little further, with the extra cutting depth available. Ring saws deliver fast & accurate results they have the capability to cut through double brick walls while remaining efficient. The ring saw is an extension of the hand saw, for when further cutting depth produces the result on site, required.
Floor/Road Sawing
Floor sawing or road sawing is the most cost efficient way of removing large areas of concrete floors. Usually in the installation of new plumbing or electrical services, lift shaft or stair well penetrations though suspended concrete floors, complete removal of suspended concrete floors. When the construction site access & working area are adequate the floor saws are the answer to various types of floor cutting.
Wall Sawing
Wall sawing is capable of a total cutting depth of 1 meter, with an extremely fast cutting rate. Ideal applications would involve cutting through thick, highly reinforced concrete, this could involve such things as highly reinforced safe walls, large door penetrations, cutting through concrete columns & beams. Wall sawing also has the added advantage of being able to flush cut up to the depth of 1 meter. This very specialized concrete cutting equipment has the added advantage of numerous safety features along with complete remote control cutting, ensuring all cuts are accurate & straight.
Wire Sawing
Wire sawing is very unlike the usual concrete cutting methods. This very specialized item makes use of diamond wire to cut large sections of concrete. A diamond wire is basically wrapped around the concrete to be removed with the use of a pulleys set in strategically placed positions; the wire rotates through the pulleys gradually tightening in the process. Some of the advantages of cutting with a wire saw are, the very limited noise & vibrations involved, the access is exceptional, if all other cutting & drilling applications are not possible, generally, the wire sawing is the answer. This can provide for a quick fix when concrete cutting needs to be done with restrictions as to how it can be done for your project.

“Pedagogy of the Oppressed”, an insight
According to Paulo Freire in “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” There are basically two methods of teaching. There is what can be called the “banking” method, and there is the “problem-posing” method. While Freire believes that the problem-posing method is the only way one should teach, I believe that both methods must be used at different times in the educational process to achieve the full benefits of education.
The first for, the “banking” method, is known as that because it basically turns the teacher into a banker and the students into the bank accounts. The information that the teacher passes along are the deposits that he or she makes. It is an entirely mechanical process of memorizing information and then regurgitating it back in the form of tests, homework, and written reports. Paulo Freire said, “This is the banking concept of education, in which the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits.” He is basically saying that the students aren’t allowed to express thought, ask questions, or explore on their own in the process.
The other form, the “problem-posing” method, is just that. The teacher poses a problem or question, and then the teacher and students all together study the problem and find their own solutions. They all learn together by discussing the problem and the solutions that everyone comes up with. Freire said, about this method, “The teacher is no longer merely the-one-who-teaches, but one who is himself taught in dialogue with the students, who in turn while being taught also teach.” So everyone is basically all learning at the same time, including the teacher. Unlike banking education, “Problem-posing education, responding to the essence of consciousness-intentionality-rejects communiqués and embodies communications,” described Freire. In other words, problem-posing education uses conversation and discussion to teach rather than orders and directives.
I personally believe that there are certain types of information that can only be learned through the use of the baking concept. Take the educational basics for example; colors, alphabet, counting, etc. The problem-posing method would be much more difficult to apply there. If a parent or teacher posed the question to a three or four year old child, “how do you say the alphabet?” If the child didn’t already know the alphabet, they might give an answer of six. To try and talk that through with them in discussion format and not end up in an argument with them would be completely over their head. I believe that in early childhood when learning the fundamentals of education, the banking method is a necessity. On the other hand, aside from those circumstances and some others later on, one learns more thoroughly and more completely through the use of the problem-posing method. Freire said one thing that I believe holds true above everything else, “A teacher’s most crucial skill is his or her ability to assist students’ struggle to gain control over the conditions of their lives, and this means helping them not only to know but to know that they know.” In other words, it is the most important part of a teacher’s job not only to teach, but to make sure that the students have the self confidence to use the information that they possess.
Once one has learned the basics of education, the processes and information sink in so much better when the students are allowed to be more hands-on about the things that they are learning. Participating in hands-on learning gives one the type of confidence that they need to understand that they really do know about something rather than just possessing some basic knowledge on the idea. I completely agree, at this point in the process of education, with what Freire says about the banking method. “Words are emptied of their concreteness and become hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity.” People feel more validated when they are allowed to form their own thoughts and opinions and then express them and have them perceived as valid points of view. That is what the problem-posing method of education is about. It tells us that we are all constantly learning throughout our lives and everyone at every stage of the learning process has an opinion and should have an opinion.
In the banking method, we learn things through the eyes of the teacher and everything one is taught is tainted in some form or fashion with the ideas and opinions of the teacher. In one paragraph written by Freire, he says it best.
“Narration (with the teacher as narrator) leads the students to memorize mechanically the narrated content. Worse yet, it turns them into containers, into receptacles to be filled by the teacher. The more completely he fills the receptacles, the better a teacher he is. The more meekly the receptacles permit themselves to be filled, the better students they are.”
Basically, the teachers’ performance is based on how much information he mechanically pumps into his students, and the students’ performance is based on their lack of questioning the information that the teacher feeds them. Using this method, the information obtained by the students usually only stays with them until it has served its purpose on homework or tests; then it is pushed out of the way and forgotten to make way for the next information that needs to be remembered. Freire also said, in reference to the banking method, “Any situation in which some men prevent others from engaging in the process of inquiry is one of violence.”
That is what the banking method does. Unlike studying on ones own, we learn everything that our teacher teaches and that is it, nothing beyond, no questions asked. Freire said, “Education must begin with the solution of the teacher-student contradiction, by reconciling the poles of the contradiction so that both are simultaneously teachers and students.” This means that the teacher doesn’t always have to be right and have all the answers as it is assumed they do in the banking method.
I once had a world geography teacher in high school that used only the baking method, Mr. Howard. I remember him well for his sense of humor and the funny stories that he would tell us about his experiences in some of the different places that we were learning about, but I hardly remember anything at all about the things we were supposed to be learning. Every day was the same in his class; come in, sit down, bell rights, lights out, copy notes exactly as he had them written for us from the projector, and listen to him tell his stories. It got very old very quick, and I remember many different students getting in trouble for falling asleep in his class.
All in all, I believe that there is no single right or wrong way to learn or teach. They are both right when used at the proper times in the educational process. The banking concept must be used to instill certain facts in children so that the problem-posing concept can be used for exploration and learning later to keep the students interested and let them learn the information more thoroughly. There is a balance that has to be reached between the two types of education in order for everyone, teachers and students alike, to achieve their full potential.

?green Hospitals? For The Future
Go Green RibbonGreen Hospital
Hospitals across the world use significantly more resources and produce more waste products compared to other commercial structures. To better resource management in healthcare establishments, effectual use of environmentally-driven policies is of supreme significance for the growth of sustainable healthcare facilities.
Both eco-conscious donors and government agencies are increasingly encouraging hospitals to go ‘green’. Hospitals are also recognizing the need to make use of environmental-friendly policies that would create fewer hazards.
Albeit constructing new facilities and discarding older ones pose economic and operational challenges, studies reveal that going green has multiple benefits – not only for the environment but also for workers (reduced stress), patients (shortened stays) and cost savings (lower energy bills).
Features of a ‘Green’ Hospital
•Reduced contaminants: Patients and staff members have inadvertently been exposed to illnesses due to increased exposure to a multitude of toxins. For this, hospitals are now seeking out upholstery and mattresses that lack flame retardants. Replacing mercury-containing devices like thermometers with safer alternatives and recycling fluorescent lamps, which contain mercury, seems like a useful option.
Using formaldehyde-free insulation, wood materials and green cleaning products that would not have any harmful effects on patients’ vulnerable immune systems is also a good idea. To make certain that patients are breathing in clean air, it is important that the air be triple-filtered.
• Natural light: Exposure to natural light from areas like lobbies and labs helps reduce stress levels in hospital workers, thereby enhancing quality of care. Naturally, patients also find this beneficial.
•Reduced water usage: Using water-efficient toilets, urinals and faucets can help the management save immeasurably. Oregon Health & Science University’s Center for Health & Healing uses 500,000 gallons of rainwater each year for toilet flushing, saving about 10% of its total water demand.
•Roof garden: An eco-roof can create a wildlife habitat – one that absorbs heavy rainwater and adds insulation. The hospital can also proffer this space where patients and staff can reunite with nature and relieve stress.
•Greater energy efficiency: To save on lighting, many hospitals are installing low-energy fluorescent bulbs. A major chunk on electricity bills (almost 40% on an average) can be saved. Others also make use of ground-source heat pumps which tap the stored energy of the earth. The Patrick H. Dollard
Discovery Health Center, in Harris, N.Y., estimates that this system is helping it to achieve a 30% energy savings. Solar panels (along with window shades endowed with integrated photovoltaic panels) can offset some electricity costs. Another practical way of lowering energy consumption is making use of chilled beam modules, in which cold water circulates through ceiling pipes. It helps to keep rooms cool.
• More Quiet:Nursing errors are mainly caused due to poor acoustic hospital designs. Acoustic control and privacy features comprise of better insulation between rooms, back-to-back restrooms, the use of vibrating pagers and quiet fans, and the location of mechanical rooms far from patients.
Steps To Implement The ‘Green Hospital’ Concept:
The following measures will help you apply this eco-friendly concept in your facility
• Waste stations: Use waste stations instead of placing trash cans everywhere. These include receptacles for trash, recyclables and compost material. Suppliers can reduce packaging waste by shipping unboxed products.
• Reuse materials: Getting completely rid of the existing hospital structure is not a feasible proposition. The construction teams can perform a “surgical demolition,” thereby saving doors, windows, concrete, insulation, and other materials to be recycled in the renovation procedure.
• Earth-friendly paint: Using low or no-VOC paints will release fewer toxins in the air as compared to regular paint.
• Efficient appliances: Making use of appliances that consume minimal energy. The extra costs will pay off in the long run.
• Install carbon dioxide sensors: Installed in overhead ductwork of compatible HVAC systems, these sensors can detect how many people are in a room depending on the amount of carbon dioxide present in the air. It offers incredible level of control as it adjusts the temperature accordingly.
• Buy wind energy:Wind energy can be credited from local power companies. This way, the hospital electricity can be generated from wind.
• Plant a garden:A small but worthwhile effort
Building a green facility might at first seem like a daunting and expensive task. But it offers multiple benefits. It is a concept that pledges to be kind to the earth and ensures that almost nothing goes to waste.
The video titled “Concrete Pumping–The Future of Concrete Construction” uses high-definition video to show the economic, environmental, safety and productivity benefits of today’s concrete pumps. The ten minute presentation utilizes current projects with modern equipment to illustrate the value of concrete pumping. Residential, commercial and civil projects are shown in the video with truckmounted concrete pumps with placing booms and stationary pumps. Several separate placing boom projects are also shown. The footage is supplemented by a script that details the many uses for concrete pumps and specific information about cost savings. The environmental benefits are illustrated with footage of concrete pumping near rivers and streams where precision placement and enclosed pipelines protect the surrounding area.

The 2011 Import and Export Market for Concrete Pumps in Brazil
The 2011 Import and Export Market for Concrete Pumps in Brazil
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on concrete pumps in Brazil face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying concrete pumps to Brazil? How important is Brazil compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of concrete pumps vary from one country of origin to another in Brazil? On the supply side, Brazil also exports concrete pumps. Which countries receive the most exports from Brazil? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for concrete pumps in Brazil. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for concrete pumps for those countries serving Brazil via exports, or supplying from Brazil via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.
In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Brazil fits into the world market for imported and exported concrete pumps. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Brazil in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Brazil is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Brazil compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

Oil Reaches Delicate Shores of Louisiana
The Brown Pelican is a beautiful bird. It is the official state bird of Louisiana. This beautiful bird makes his home here in Louisiana along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. These birds survive by diving straight from the air into the water for fish. Since the oil rig the Deepwater Horizon exploded off the coast of Louisiana in April, oil is continuing to fill up the Gulf. This is causing much harm to the wildlife here.
Today, BP has a plan in effect to stop this oil leak. It is called a “top kill.” It may take up to two days before the leak is stopped. That is if the plan works because it has never been tried in such depth of water before. This process consists of forcing heavy mud into the oil well to stop the flow of oil. This process is followed by pumping concrete into the well to plug the leak. If this plan does not work it could make the leak much worse than it already is. It has a 60-70% chance of working. This is a most difficult leak because it is located more than a mile beneath the water. This is too deep for divers to work on pipes.
In the meantime our wildlife is continuing to suffer from the damage that has been done to their home. Our unique people, locoals, those who live here continue to suffer from the loss of business. Eleven men have lost their lives when the BP oil rig the Deepwater Horizon exploded. The families of the men who lost their lives are suffering.
Louisiana seafood is some of the best in the world. It is often exported to other places. Our seafood industry will be effected by this spill. Beautiful oysters, big crabs, pretty shrimp, big jumpin’ catfish, might be history if this leak is not stopped soon. This spill is ruining our shores and it is eating away at our culture and heritage. It is a destruction of God’s hard work. Many tears are being shed by the people here in Louisiana. There must be something or someone out there who has the knowledge and strength to stop this leak before it is too late, if not already. When BP takes their lunch break, and they sink their teeth into a mouthwatering shrimp poboy sandwich or thin fried catfish, they need not to forget who put it on their plate.
